Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is energy or light in motion.  It is unconditional love and compassion.  It is unlimited and intelligent.  It is a powerful healing process, energising, meditative, dynamic, and a balancing force of spirit, mind, emotion and body.  It is the higher self’s connection to the universal energy that breathes life into all living things.  The key to Reiki is simplicity: it is natural and it works on physical, mental and emotional levels to restore the balance of energy.  Reiki is intuitive and flows naturally to wherever it is needed.

Whilst it does not replace modern medicine, the Japanese healing art of Reiki can be used along with any other form of therapy, medication, religion, belief system and faith.  In fact, the use of Reiki will enhance their effectiveness.

Rei means universal, omnipresent – present everywhere at the same time.  Esoterically Rei means spiritual consciousness, the omniscient wisdom of the higher self.

For thousands of years, Indian, Tibetan, and Chinese philosophy have held that everything in the universe consists of energy.  Energy is present in unlimited supply, and is in constant motion and flux.  Quantum physics now supports this theory with the understanding that understanding that ‘everything is energy, everything is ‘vibration’.  The Japanese call this energy ‘ki', but it is also known as ‘chi’ in China, and ‘prana’ in India.  It flows continuously through pathways in your body, home, the Earth, atmosphere and cosmos.

What is Reiki?

Reiki Healing Sessions

As the source of our health, problems occur when there is an imbalance or disruption to our energetic flow.  Knowing this, ancient Eastern disciplines such as Reiki, Tai Chi, Feng Shui, Meditation, Sound Bowl Healing, Yoga and Acupuncture have sought to develop ways to harness its power to heal.  They have been developed to enhance and balance the flow of this pure and ubiquitous energy, in and around the body.

When you feel healthy and full of enthusiasm, the flow of Ki energy in your body is high and unencumbered.  Life seems easier to deal with and you have a higher resistance to illness and disease.  However, when your Ki energy is low because maybe you are under stress or feeling unhappy and tired, you will be more susceptible to disease and sickness and it can be difficult to deal with life’s challenges.

As a Reiki Master Teacher and practitioner, I am purely a channel for the Reiki energy, which stimulates the flow of Ki energy around the body and breaks down energetic blockages.  An important fact about this energy is that it works for you whether or not you believe it's real (like gravity).  When practicing Reiki in 1:1 sessions, I am in a place of gratitude, love and presence for those receiving.  When receiving you may experience a feeling of warmth, see lights or visual images, or nothing at all!   You can expect to leave feeling deeply relaxed and at peace.

1:1 Reiki healing sessions are typically an hour or 90 minutes.  Wear comfortable clothing and drink plenty of water for 24 hours after receiving this beautiful, loving, energetic healing.

The history of Reiki

A Brief History of Reiki

Hannah and I both completed our Reiki Training in Traditional Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki, with the beautiful Pervin and Stephen Clasper of the Shakti Healing Circle, Hong Kong.  We are in gratitude of their gentle teachings, and sharing of Reiki as a way of life,  something that has greatly impacted our every day and perspective on life.

Usui Shiki Ryoho (the Usui System of Natural Healing) was founded in Japan over 100 years ago by Dr. Mikao Usui.  Dr. Usui's personal search for healing resulted in him receiving the Reiki symbols and energy.  His Reiki clinic in Tokyo gained a reputation for its healing benefits and eventually he passed his teachings to Dr. Hayashi.  Dr. Hayashi then trained several more Reiki Masters, including Mrs. Hawayo Takata who took the practice to America, introducing this healing art to Western society.

In Usui Reiki, the word 'healing' is used the describe harmony and wholeness of being.  Usui Shiki Ryoho addresses the whole person on all levels - physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.  It is passed on from one person to another through attunements, teachings and a defined form of practice.

Usui Shiki Ryoho was defined by Phyllis Lei Furumoto (a student of Mrs. Takata), as having four aspects: healing practice, personal development, spiritual discipline and mystic order.  This is combined with the pillars and principles of Reiki (explored through Reiki 1 and 2 trainings), and nine elements of Reiki that together, provide a profound path for healing, growth and spiritual deepening.   This practice matures and develops with the lineage to reflect the lifestyle, culture and advancements of the time.

Aspects of Reiki

Healing Practice

Healing Practice

Usui Shiki Ryoho is, first and foremost, a form of self healing.

As Reiki intuitively goes to where it is needed, self-practice is vital in ensuring that the energies move through the practitioner to another.  As such, after each Reiki Level, there is a 21-day self practice.

Personal Development

Personal Development

Through the practice of Usui Shiki Ryoho Reiki as a way of living, you will gain greater awareness of choices available to you.

The retreat element of our trainings allows time and space to challenge underlying (or implicit) beliefs that affect your reactions to situations in the present.  Increased self-awareness leads to a more authentic journey through life.

Spiritual Discipline

Spiritual Discipline

Inherent in the regular practice of Reiki is connection to the divine, spirit or higher self within.

Deepening this connection to our very being leads to profound and compassionate awareness, acceptance, harmony and connection not only with self, but our communities and the wider world.

Mystic Order

Mystic Order

As you explore your own Reiki journey, life will continue to unfold as it is meant to be.

Bringing in the practice of the pillars of Reiki as a way of life will open up new opportunities, a new way of being, more present awareness and connection with others in the practice of this beautiful, gentle art of healing.

Oral Tradition

The form and essence of this system is passed on only through a person to person relationship with a Reiki Master.  Meeting in person allows for communication of the teachings, principles and essence of Reiki through story, demonstration, attunement, sharing, and responding to questions.  Whilst we provide a comprehensive booklet for reference after the training and retreat, personal experience through practice is emphasised over the written word.
