The yoga sala building work is complete!

Dear Friends,

After six weeks of building work, the yoga sala structure now has a traditionally crafted coconut leaf roof, and the garden a bamboo fence! The natural materials used have transformed the space from an industrial-looking shell into a tranquil oasis, in keeping with the gentle rustling of the palm-trees beyond.

Despite having a deliciously refreshing breeze, making it the coolest spot in the villa, we’re now having ceiling fans, sound system, lighting and plug sockets installed. All being well, the floor will be painted on Tuesday, and the mandala by the end of the week. Once the turf is in, it will truly be a beautifully relaxing meditation garden. Like everything in life, the plants will need space and time to grow, but we’re excited to see it come together!

The sala (or shala) is 8.5m x 9.5m, and can comfortably fit 20 yoga mats – or a lot of people standing or sitting! Though it’s not the bamboo structure we initially visualised (as it would not have survived the rainy season!) we’ve realised that the steel frame makes it suitable for acroyoga – an unexpected bonus!

The yoga mats have finally arrived, and on Friday evening they had their first outing at a gentle Summer Solstice meditation. After opening with a grounding, guided meditation led by Kerstin Piltz, the space resonated with two sets of sound bowls placed at either side of the room.

To be honest, I am not sure who enjoyed the experience more, those who joined us for the meditation, or Nigel and I! Whilst we had practiced together to familiarise ourselves with the positioning of each others bowls and their resonance, the experience of exchanging chord sequences, melodic patterns and layering different sounds during a meditation was incredible. Thank you so much Nigel Rowles, I’m already looking forward to the next one! Gratitude also to those that joined us – we’re delighted that you enjoyed the evening so much and hope to see you again for the full moon.

Stay posted for more upcoming retreats, events and the launch of the website! Don’t forget to subscribe to the blog – we’ll be sending out exclusive discounts when the website goes ‘live’!

With gratitude and love,
